What is the best way to clean a stainless steel pot?

Question:The inside of the pot has black burn marks on it.

Answers:
Tip #1: The new "Power Dissolver" by Dawn works quite well.

Tip #2: Try Barkeeper's Friend. It works very well on stainless steel. Sprinkle the powder on a wet scrubbing pad, let it sit for a bit and then scrub off. The cleanser also works well on porcelain sinks and tile counter tops.

Tip #3: Try using a dryer sheet with some water in the pan.

Tip #4: Spray the dry pan with the new Dawn Power cleaner. Put the pan in a plastic bag and seal with twist tie. Let sit overnight. Most of the burned on part will rinse off, then use SOS or scrubby to finish the job.

Tip #5: Try mixing cream of tartar, baking soda and vinegar and then adding just enough water to cover the mess and boiling it?

BTW... Do *NOT* use baking soda with an aluminum pan.

Bon Ami or Barkeepers Friend

FP
Brillo pad and elbow grease.
steel wool
leave some lemon juice on it over night and it should clear, otherwise bleach can work too
Ketchup.. Believe it or not.. It'll take all the varnish and any build up off.. Just pour it in and use a papertowel to spread around..

Wait about 15 minutes then rinse whipe off.. This works in copper and brass too..
SOS pads or Vim works great if you let it soak in a bit first
try to scrub it off with steel wool.
If you know someone with access to a sand blaster , that works great , it makes the pot look brand new.
Try S.O.S. pads...they work great!
Barkeeper's Friend. I use it on my pots and it works great. Works on silver as well.
Let it soak in hot water 20-30 minutes. Oddly enough SOS pads work and they do not ruin stainless steel pots.
there is this thing that cleans stainless steel, i think it might have a name... stainless steel cleaner? you can buy it at wal-mart. lol.
Sprinkle the affected area with coarse salt (but never on nonstick skillets) and add just enough water to make a paste. Scrub well to get rid of the stains. You also can pour about 2 tablespoons of white vinegar to each cup of water in the skillet and simmer over medium heat to loosen the food crud.
soak in soapy water over night and then use a brillo pad. they're great at removing difficult stains without scratching the surface and they contain a soap that removes any greasy residue. plus they're cheap, sometimes reuseable, and come in a box of 10. also, if that doesnt work then use an oven cleaner spray, let it sit long enough to losen the stain, and then wash it off. however, the chemicals can be kind of harsh on your pots/pans since it's really meant for your oven, especially if they have a non-stick coating, so be careful and good luck!
Here are a couple of things you can try if the stain has been there for a while:

1) Pour boiling water into the pot. Let it set for 15 minutes. If the pan still won't come clean, let the water cool, then wash with warm soapy water and a scrub brush made of nylon.

2) If a stubborn burn has been created partly fill the pot with water and bring to a boil. Use a wooden spoon to remove the burnt particles.

If the stain still remains, use a kitchen scouring pad with any good stainless steel cleaner, which is available in most grocery and hardware stores.

For burns that happen while you're using the pot:
1) If the pot is hot, fill it with hot water and let it soak.
2) If the pot is cold, fill it with cold water and let it soak.

If the pot has become discolored, bluish, or golden brown from overheating, soak the pot in hot soapy vinegar water. You may also have to use a kitchen scouring pad. Scouring pads have always done the trick for me.
BLEACH CLEANS S/STEEL AMAZINGLY, BUT MUST BE GENUINE S/STEEL,CLEANS KITCHEN SINKS TOO! YOU MAY HAVE TO RUB THE BLACK BURNT STAIN WITH A BIT OF STEEL WOOL.
Besides using the SOS or Brillo, which works very well as everyone else suggested, to really "shine 'er up", use Cameo Aluminum and stainless steel cleaner. When I don't have that I use Soft Scrub.
Soak the pot with some water and Old Dutch or Comet. Then use some steel wool and give it a good scrub. Make sure to wash and rinse well after.
