Help! How do I get the smell of smoke out of a couch!?!?!?!?!?
Question:I recently bought a couch from a lady who smoked. I am neither a smoker nor a fan of the smell of smoke. i have sprayd it with Febreeze several times as well as put a vaccum to it several times. Any other things that would work? I am desperate!
Answers:
Get a good smelling febreeze it will cover the smell...and its cheap too!
Rent a steam cleaner. You need to remove the build up that's on it to get the stink out.
The first answer is a good start. When it is dry, cover it in baking soda and throw a cover over it for at least a week.
Try a white vinegar water mixture in a spray bottle. do it a couple of times and vacuum. You will have to do it every couple weeks cause the smoke has "soaked" into the cushions etc..
One solution is using a product called "Zero Odor" which can be found and purchased on the web. A second solution depends on the fabric. I have used a solution of whited vinegar and water sprayed lightly on the fabric and left to dry.As I am a smoker I also place saucers of white vinegar in the rooms where I smoke and it does an effective job of totally eliminating the smoke odor. Initially, you may have the odor of white vinegar but it eventually dissipates and the room is left free of the smoke odor.
Like the first answer I would rent a steam cleaner and clean it good. There is cleaners that you can get like @ a local janitor supply store that they use in hospitals that wound help get the smoke smell out. What I would probably do if you can afford it I would get a professional carpet cleaner to do your couch they have shampoo or soap that would probably do the job.
Febreze is a waste of money. Go rent a carpet cleaner that comes with a hose for upholstery. Of course make sure the couch is "washable" first.
Get a steam cleaner and clean it.
Baking soda. If you take some small containers of backing soda and put them under the couch it should absorbe the smoke smell.
