How can I get the smoke smell out?
Question:We had a toaster malfunction and almost had a fire, thank god we didn't! We did have a large amount of smoke though and now it stinks in at least half of the apartment. I really don't have the money for the professionals right now. How can I get the smoke smell out of the house?

I had the same thing happen to me, only I burnt something on the stove. The smell lingered so I went to the store and bought Arm and Hammer baking soda. Get the boxes were you can pull down the sides and it has vents in it. The other type of box will work the same but you will just have to cut the top off. The baking soda will absorb the smell. It works and they are under a dollar last time I got one. I use them in the fridge to absorb any smells and I dump a box in my cat litter. That stuff is great. I hope that helps.
dummy, open up some windows.
that happened to my house it was with the microwave though, the best thing you can do is use some fans open the windows and doors & use some air freshener.
I agree with opening the windows; however, if you're able to shampoo your carpet it will probably get rid of the majority of the smell. Good luck!
First try to get rid of the toaster.
try going to the walmart car section of the store or where they wash cars. tell them you need some Ozium spray. it is a natural neutralizer deodorizer. febreeze work too.
charcoal will take smells out - put a piece of charcoal (like they use in hopsitals) in a bowl for a few days. This should absorb the smell. Also you can try an air cleaner - you may have to wash walls, drapes etc. Febreeze sofas etc
Well, opening windows is a good idea, but regardless, it will take time. Carbon has an oily tendency, and remains in every area infiltrated, which is a lot. Try, first, cutting an orange or two into segments, eat or use the "meat" of the fruit, putting the peels in a saucepan, roughly 1/2 full of very hot/simmering water. Keep an eye on it as it steams ( don't let the water boil out). The fragrance will travel throughout the house and help with the odor. Repeat as necessary.
Good luck!
There is a thing called "Oust" - it can even get rid of the smell of cigarette smoke from your clothes after a nigtht out in the pub. And believe me - this smell is quite tough!
It's not a usual aerosol - it doesn't cover the smell, it gets rid of it somewhow. Also a good thing called "Febreeze" - if I am not mistaken. It does the same thing
For carpeting sprinkle carpet librally with baking soda and leave on overnight... You may have to launder your drapes/bedding etc... If you are able launder your furniture covers or use febreeze... You can also leave fresh baking soda in open dishes throughout your home to absorb some of the odors... It's cheap and non toxic.
