Nanny job description?
Question:I started being a nanny for a family whose twin boys were kicked out of several daycares. They also have a cleaning service come every two weeks. They are cutting off the cleaning service because they want ME to do ALL the cleaning (scrubbing toilets, mopping all floors doing THEIR laundry, etc). I thought I was responsible for light cleaning such as laundry, the boys room, and sweeping/mopping! I am not under any form or contract because I went through a nanny service. Where do I draw the line?
Answers:
Key word? NANNY. A nanny is a childcare provider who helps to keep things orderly, etc., but they are not the housekeeper!
First of all, I have to ask, if you went through a service, why did they not provide you with a contract? Secondly, why don't you call them and ask them what you should do?
As far as cancelling the maid service so you can do all the cleaning, you should only agree to that if: A- you want to and B- they offer you a worthwhile amount of extra salary.
If they are just going to make you into a slave who has to do everything, they better be paying you really well.
The first thing I would do if I were you is talk to the agency about it. Sometimes they have people who can mediate and help you and the family talk about situations in a clear and fair manner. I would also see if you can't get some kind of written description of what you are and are not supposed to do. DO NOT sign this if you don't agree with EVERYTHING it says. You may have to go over it with the family more than once and make some compromises, etc., until everyone is happy with what it says and then you can all sign it.
The biggest problem here is that without a contract, you don't really have a leg to stand on. See what can be worked out, but if things are just to much for you, you may have to consider leaving this family and looking for a new one, or moving on to another part of your life.
wow thats a tuffy my head hurts
Tell them exactly what you just said. Tell them you are not responsible for all of those duties and if they expect you to do it all then they will have to find another nanny.
You have the right to set your limits. You dictate what you will and will not do. You are not their slave. If they are willing to increase your pay for additional duties, you may want to consider it. It should not be expected or demanded from them. How are you supposed to take care of the children if you are cleaning the house?
Good luck...stand up for yourself.
All you have to do is say NO! A nanny service does not provide house cleaning! Call your service and tell them. If you ment you are not with a service, then just tell them NO! Being a Nanny does not require any cleaning expcet what you dirty! Not the boys room or the floors!! You need to have a talk with them right away about this!! If you do decide to do all the cleaning, you will have to charge for it and it is not cheap! Stand up for yourself and don't do anything you don't want to do!!
I cant understand your question? can u clarify it more properly.
You either clean or babysit, you decide.
As a nanny, your primary concern is for the children. How are you suppose to take proper care of the children and do all this housework also? You draw the line and tell them you are a nanny, not a maid service.
THE BEST WAY TO APPROACH THESE ODDED RESPONSIBILITIES IS TO HAVE THE EMPLOYERS EXPECTATIONS IN WRITING. OFCOURSE THEY MUST AGREE THAT YOUR PRIMARY EXPECTATION SHOULD BE THE CARE OF THEIR BOYS, WHICH IT SOUNDS THAT THEY NEED EXTRA CLOSE SUPERVISION. YOU MIGHT ALSO REMIND THEM THAT YOU DID NOT SIGN UP FOR A HOUSEKEEPER POSITION. GOOD LUCK...SHIRLEY
It is going to be very difficult to all that cleaning and take care of two children who are not well behaved. You should discuss this with the agency that got you this job. If you decide to do it anyway you should charge at least $ 100.00 more a week. It sounds like these people are not very good people to work for. You should have a contract. I'm surprised the agency didn't insist on it. Specify exactly what you are willing to do and what you expect from them. Some Nanny Agencies are not very good also. Try another one if they don't help you. There are some good Nanny web sites. Even if you don't use them for getting a job there is information that will be useful to you. 4 nannies.com---e nannysource.com-----go nannies.com--Nannyneeded.com
