I am trying to clean a copper pot, but the cleaners I have tried leave scratches. Any Ideas?
Question:
Answers:
Mild acid, as in lemon jice.
I heard a mixture of lemon and ketchup.
ashes or tooth paste and a soft cloth works great
lemon or ketchup are to acidic and will take off the finish
Try Catsup, the acid will clean without scratching. Also a drain cleaner with a mild hydrochloric acid will work too, but only in a well ventilated area.
Commercial product: Brasso, used in the military
Put a layer of aluminum foil in the bottom of the kitchen sink, fill the sink with hot water, and add about 1/4 box of baking soda and stir. Dip copper pot in on one side for a minute and then flip it over and do the other side. Works like a charm.
Tabasco Sauce will take care of it or go to the store and get some brasso.
I can suggest this. Make a paste with whiting & methylated spirit this will rid the green deposit called VERDIGRIS. Then use a mild abrasive metal polish. Do not be tempted to lacquer polish copper and brass antiques- though it will save regular polishing it will also lower their value
Chore Boy has a cleaning cloth that comes in a yellow box (golden fleece) it does not scratch and you do not need cleaners for it, just dish soap if you want. I have used it and love it. Good Luck :)
Cut a lemon in half, dip the cut into salt, and use as a scrubber.
I've heard toothpaste, not the gel kind
also try baking soda mixed with a little water
Good luck
