Do sharpie markers wash off clothing?
Question:i drew all over a plain white shirt, i don't want the ink to wash off or fade i used the sharpie markers will it wash off?
Answers:
Not necessarily. use cold water with minimal soap the first time. sometimes, the reds will bleed some. I don't quite understand.
I did my college chemistry lab jacket with all the cover art from guns and roses albums. Still have it. still looks great (and it can be washed).
Sharpies may eventually fade, but they are permanent markers, and therefore do not wash out.
It doesn't wash out but it can fade. Try using a permanent black marker and it will be fine.
It may fade or bleed when you wash it. but if you will iron it first then the color will be permanent.
Rinse the stain from the fabric with cold water until no more color is being removed. Place the fabric on paper towels and saturate with rubbing alcohol, using a cotton ball or small cloth to blot the stain. Replace the paper towels as often as needed to prevent re-staining the fabric. Treat the stain with a lather from a bar of Fels-Naptha Soap and launder as usual.
The sharpie may fade a bit. Wash the shirt in cold water and mild detergent, then put into dryer for about 10 minutes on low heat then let the shirt air dry.
Rubbing alcohol will remove sharpy ink from plastic objects. You might try it on the shirt.
Not only will the color wash out, the material will degrade.
If you want the color of anything not to bleed or fade wash it in the washer with cold water and a cup of vinager it will set the color and will last longer.
It might fade, but not completely. And I have seen the red marker bleed on shirts. Try doing a "heat set". Iron the shirt with a hot --not hot enough to burn it--iron. Go slowly and really hold the iron over each section. Do NOT use steam.
