Before I take a bath, i disinfect my bathtub. How do i know when its safe to get in?
Question:I take a bath about once or twice a week ((Shower every day of course!! sometimes its just nice to take a bath to relax))...
Now, I have a cat...his litter box is in the bathroom - and for some reason he always finds the need to lay in my bathtub!! so theres cat hair and some grains of kitty litter ((that was left on his paws)) in my bathtub!
Now, Before i take a bath i HAVE TO disinfect it. I dont want to lay in a bath tub full of germs from kitty litter - or cat hair. ... at the same time, i dont want to bathe in the chemicals that i use to clean my bathtub.
After spraying bleach or bathroom disinfectant in my bathtub - i wait about 10 minutes and then turn on the shower to rince away any remains. However, I just purchased an orange scented disinfectant and when I get into the bathtub i feel that I can smell the orange scent in the water!!
How long should i wait before getting in the tub after disinfecting int??

Maybe you could find natural products to use as an alternative disinfectant eg. eucalyptus or tea tree oil as directed if they are safe, or buy a natural style disinfectant (like organic food - with safe chemicals), or look at past Answers questions answers about natural disinfectants, which mention lemons or vinegar or bicarb soda or other things. Good luck. The other thing could be to lay a towel or some sort of sheeting in the bottom of the bath - that way the cat can lay there but not leave her hair and dirt in the bath.
If you take a cup and rinse the tub out you should be able to jump right in and take a bath. I do it all the time. Just rinse it out good.

You may just be smelling the odor from the disinfectant in the air. After ten minutes you are safe.
First, you cannot find a better disinfecting cleaner than bleach. Use it. Rinse it out and you're ready. Leave the orange scent for the kitchen sink.
Do you cuddle your cat? Do you methodically wash your hands after each time you touch it or touch things that belongs to it? Your cat shouldn't make you sick so why the problem with the bath tub. All living beings are a host of bacteria... they are kept in check by each other ----Live and let live. yes bacteria and all!! A healthy body can handle it and it will build natural resistances to other "bugs".
Simply just rinse the tub before you use it because probably it won't be your cat that makes you ill if you happen to catch a germ from the bath. Just think of the germs that are already living in the water you fill it with. Sure it is treated but not for everything and you body handles that just fine.
Final word is to not go overboard with cleaning everything... the chemicals used can do more harm than good.

get a product called "simple green". its a disinfectant and won't harm your skin. wash the tub with it, then rinse well. or put the biting cat to sleep.
You can always put an inch or so of water in the bathtub after you shower... your cat will soon learn to stay out of the tub, and you wont have to worry about sanitizing the tub.
