Dry clean only skirt got wet?
Question:I got a small stain on a dry clean only skirt and before I thought to check whether it was dry clean only I tried to use a bit of water to get it off. Now the stain is gone but there's an even bigger water ring. Can the dry cleaners get this out or is it ruined? (I'm pretty sure they'll take my money if I take it in whether or not they think they can get it out ...)
Answers:
for starters i would have to know what its made out of but i can tell you this. the only way to get a water ring out of something is with water. even if you took it to the drycleaner they would only tell you wet cleaning recommended or that its not fixable. the dry cleaning machine will not get it out. now if its made of silk its possible it can be washed on a gentle cycle and in cold water. then it needs to be either hung dry or dried on a low temperature. the thing with silk though is when its washed and dried it has a hard feel to it. thats where your dry cleaner comes in because after its washed and dried it needs to be ran through a cycle in the dry cleaning machine to bring back the softness. linens you have to worry about shrinkage. if you can let us know the material its made out of and i can give you a better idea at what you are dealing with.
I dont know how many dry clean only items i have that i wash in the washing machine, i would need to know what kind of material it is to help.
I think I would take it to the dry cleaner, and tell them what you have done. If they cannot get it out, you have lost the price of the skirt anyway. So sorry.
Not to panic. Soak the shirt in cold water. Your going to see a lot of dye. Take it out after a few minutes. Squese water out and hang to dry. What you are doing is making the water ring expand so large that it disapears. Good luck
Oh, dry clean.
