What is the easiest way (and cheapest) to remove pet stains and odors from carpet using a "rug doctor"?

Answers:
All you need is a bottle of Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution from the pet store. Works every time. Carpet shampooers won't do it.

Well sounds like you have done all you can do short of getting a new carpet.
Buy the "rug doctor" carpet cleaner. It is with the stuff where you rented the cleaner from. Just measure it out according to the instructions and it'll take the stains right out.
depending on what kind of stain you are removing, the soapier the water is your most likely to leave residue in the carpet and as you walk over it the dirt will come off your shoes and make it worse your best bet is either a water and vinegar solution and even a degreaser will work well and make sure you rinse very well, if you have candle wax in your carpet you can take a brown paper bag and lay over it a iron the bag with a clothes iron and the wax will melt and brown paper bag will absorb it
