Did I do the right thing...?
Question:My dog pissed on my backpack, and it smelled really bad. I decided to hand wash it then put it in the dryer. Did I do the right thing? Is there a better way to get it clean?

I really wanted to BBQ my dog, turn him into hot dog. Never ever use dryer, it worsen the smell. Wash your backpack first then go to the pet shop to get piss smell removal.

Washing is always the right answer, unless the item says not to wash/machine dry. If it still smells like urine, spray it with Febreze.
I woulda put the bag in the washing machine and then air dry it. Just be sure parts of the bag don't melt or deform.
ok, i have a better answer than before, my book got milk all over it, so i put marker on some of the pages to cover it up, if some thing happens to your book its rewind

It could work but if you cant get the smell out you will need a special cleaner. You can get from most pet stores and I think Wal-Mart has it too. It is called PET URINE remover. It is hard to get the smell of animal pee out. I would let it air dry. The dryer could melt stuff on it or damage it.
Gross..dogs are so nasty sometimes!! My dog pisses on my clean laundry every chance he gets.It makes me want to kick him..Ummmm as for your question..it depends on the material. There should be a tag in/on it that should tell you cleaning instructions. Urine is hard to get out so if you hand washed it, you should probably do it a few more times to make sure it's all out. You don't want to be walking through school smelling like a urinal.

Go to a pet store and get "natures miracle" or a similar product and spray it on the bag directly if it still stinks bad and let it dry and do this until the smell is gone, IF you dont have the time for that you can soak the bag in the product or even easier, wash it in the machine pouring some of natures miracle in the machine and NO other detergent, Hope this helps.

If it worked and your backpack didn't fall apart, it's the right thing. Just because you don't smell it, though, doesn't mean your dog can't, so don't be surprised if he/she does it again. Pet stores have stuff with enzymes that eat up what causes the odor. Some works better than others. The ones my vet sells are more reliable. It's been a while since my dog has required such cleanup, so I don't remember the brand I liked best. It was in a tall cylinder-shaped plastic bottle, white with red lettering. Kinda nerdy looking.
A trick we use when our cats decide to christen something with their urine is washing the item in the washing machine with detergent and a half cup of baking soda. Then in the rinse cycle, put in a cup of vinegar. I have never had anything smell like urine after that.
As for washing and drying your backpack -- no big deal. I machine wash and dry mine whenever they need it.
