What do you think?
Question:My dog pissed on my backpack and somewhere in my room. About the backpack I took care of that by hand washing it then throwing it in the dryer. Now I'm worried about the smell in my room because its smell H0RRiBLE! I tryed an air refreshner, but that didn't work. What do you recommend?
Answers:
oh my gosh you are hilarious.
"my dog pissed on my backpack" made me crack up uncontrollably.
k well my sisters cat pissed in my room once (and I say once for a reason ya know?!) and she pissed on my floor in two spots AND on my bed. well I kicked her kitty butt and then did this:
find where your dog tinkled by like smelling & feeling around (I know). if it was on your floor then use soap (any soap) and water and scrub it. you might have to do it twice.
if it was on your bed, strip all your sheets and blankets and throw them in the wash and scrub your matress (if it soaked through) with soap and water.
if you have a window in there open it. If not it's okay because once you clean it all up the smell will go away.
you can also burn candles or insense and in just a few minutes your room will smell fine again.
I think they sell special spray or solution for pet pee removal. Go to a pet store and ask. Perhaps febreeze might help too.
They make a spray that removes pet urine. You can buy it at walmart or some place like that.
You need to find where he peed and get something like Resolve and clean it with that. If you can't then the only other thing I can suggest is clean the whole carpet with a steam cleaner. If you don't have one you can rent them from some grocery stores.
I think that you need to try to find the smell in your room and clean it real good. If you don't do that then the smell will be there for quite a while. Air fresheners will just cover it up for a little while, but it will still be there. It may take a while to find it, but it's the best thing to do.
I answered the backpack question also. Do you discipline your dog when he pisses all over your stuff?? He sounds like more trouble then he's worth to be honest with you. Sorry, I am just not a dog person.they are greedy and dirty and dumb. Cats are so much cleaner and smarter. Anyways, there is stuff in Walmart or Home Depot that you would spray around your room that would neutralize the urine and actually get rid of the smell instead of just covering it up. It's expensive but worth it..
find the spot, mix a paste of baking soda and vinegar, put it on the spot, leave it to sit overnight, covered by a paper towel. In the morning, vaccuum up the baking soda paste, clean up any residue with a wet paper towel. That will kill the smell, and prevent the dog from going back to urinate there again.
They make products that can clean up the smell pretty good, but once the dog starts going in the house they tend to keep doing it. If that is the case you will never solve he problem as long as you have the dog. Even if you get another dog that one may smell the old dog & pee there.
I have cats & used a product called pet fresh that seem to work well.
They sell air freshener machines that might help you out.
An ozone machine could be what you need.
Look around the room... chances are puppy was not just a two time offender. When I dog sat for my parents I cleaned the heck out of the carpet, even professionally and it still smelled... dang fur ball twinkled on the box spring mattress and throw pillows. I would say steam cleaning the carpets with pet treatment is the best option.
You're gonna have to find the spot, even if you have to crawl around with your nose a few inches above the carpet. When you find it, soak up anything not yet dry with paper towels & scrub it a few times with carpet cleaner or some soapy water. It would also be great if you could get some of that pet odor neutralizer like Nature's Miracle or Simple Solution from the pet store. Pour that over the spot and let it dry for a couple days. That will neutralize the odor.
If you can't find the spot, you're gonna have to get one of those carpet shampoo-ers and shampoo the whole rug. Just put some carpet shampoo and pet odor neutralizer in the solution bin of the carpet shampoo-er.
Air fresheners, incense, and candles will not cover the smell. You are going to have to clean up the pee. Urine smell stays in carpets for a vey long time. Sooner or later you will not smell it anymore, but that will just be because you got used to smelling it. Other people will still be able to smell it, which will be embarrassing if you have company. The pet odor neutralizer is really the best way to go.
Mist the floor with vinegar and water .Then put the fan on to dry it well.If odor stays, then try just vinegar. When dry vinegar smell will leave too.
