Hot water and 1 cup of white vinegar should do the trick. Also, taking them out of the washer immediately after the cycles end will help eliminate this problem.
i also had this problem, if towels are white a cup of bleach will work wonders, if colored towels, try clorox 2 promptly remove from washer and put in dryer or hang out to dry.
Throw them away and buy new ones otherwise bleach the hell out of them.
Sounds like you're not using enough soap when you wash them. If they are white towels, try using a little bleach with the load and wash them in hot water. Even if they are colored towels wash them in hot water but DON'T use bleach.

You shouldn't use bleach on bath towels. It will destroy the fibers. For fresher bath towels, add a scoop of baking soda, I usually dilute with water so that it doesn't clump on the material. Follow by adding your detergent as usual.

You can add either a cup of ammonia to the wash load, or add baking soda. Either one will do the trick when added to your normal detergent. The water temperature doesn't matter, but hot will kill any bacteria that may have accumulated.
Baking soda takes the odors out of most everything. Read washing instructions on the box and use the proper water temperature to prevent fading if your towels are colored. Bleach should never be used on colored items.
