depend´s on the type of stains, For example Salt removes blood stains, soak your garment in cold water , remove from water add the salt, leave for 10. min´s or so, or until you see the stain lifting, then rinse again in cold water, before washing as normal. Baking powder is useful for removing grease stains, The good old fashioned soap bar ,for washing clothes is very good to, especially for those yellow sweat marks . Again with soak in cold water ,add the soap , leaving the soap on and free from water say 1/2 hr. back to the cold water, rub in more soap ,leaving the soap on this time pop into your machine , Then hang outside in the sun , the sun will bleach out any remaining stain´s the natural way. hope this helps you a little
