Hard water stains in toilet?
Question:i just bought a house and the water is so hard that the inside of my toijlet is pitted and black. i've scrubbed with no avail plus any cleaners don't seem to be able to penetrate the holes. it's embarrasing when people come over because it looks like i don't clean. HELP!!
Answers:
try Kaboom, it made my bathtub look very white again, or you can try some CLR, whick works very well for hard water and rust adn limscale stains or if its thaat bad, just go ahead and replace it.
replace it (the bowl)
leave bleach in the toilet for a few hours
time to get a new toilet. it's not that hard to replace it.
Maybe you can test out something for me then. Use a regular can of Coke. There's an email thats been going around for years saying the 25 things you can use Coke. Pour it in, let it stay awhile, then flush. Let me know.
No need to replace the bowl. Get a pumice stone, like the type you would use to remove calluses on your feet. Soak it in water for a few minutes, put on a pair of rubber gloves and rub on the stain.
Try iron-out. It may be hard to find if you are in an area where most people have city water. It is a product to soften well-water. Also, muriatic acid is dangerous, but you could try it.
I have used Soft Scrub. It comes in a aqua color blue squeeze bottle. I have used that with SOS pads. It works well.
I don't know if it will get in the holes though. Just buy a new toilet. I don't know what state you are in...I'm in construction and here (WI) new toilets can start at $50.00.
Go on-line and buy install instructions and get yourself a new toilet.
I know how to fix this with out buying a new toilet! Take some CLR and poor it into the toilet. Leave it set for a couple of hours and the CLR will have cleaned the mess up.
Install a water softener. Leave bleach in the bowl for a few hours or use a scale remover. Don't use them at the same time.
pour in some CLR and allow to sit (following directions). Then you should scrub with a toilet brush. You may need to repeat several times.
Have you tried pumice stone? It can be found at grocery stores, and local hardware/home improvement stores. Will take additional elbow grease, but should help.
"The cleaners listed below will remove stains on your surfaces. But remember that you should clean hard water stains away regularly. The longer they sit, the harder they are to remove. If allowed to stain for long periods the stain may be permanent.
Plain white vinegar and lemon juice is a acid,, and it helps to loosen and remove hard water deposits from glass shower enclosures.
Phosphoric acid, hydrochloric and sulfuric acid are very strong acid and professional cleaning companies use this to scour hard water deposits. (be sure to use eye protection and gloves!"
Try a chemical called Lightning Kleen you must wear gloves but it works like charm. If there is still some that can not come off use Ultra Fine wet/dry sand paper (it must be wet to avoid scratching the porcelain) or a pumis stone.
