If I use bleach to clean my toilet will it harm the necessary bacteria in my septic system. If so what to use?
Question:
Answers:
Some argue that the use of leading brand laundry detergents, bleaches and fabric softeners can kill the useful bacteria in your septic system, causing it to fail. However, normal use of these products should not effect the operation of your septic system. These products do kill a small amount of bacteria, but septic tanks harbor a large bacterial colonies and the effect is negligible. Excessive use of these products can contribute to septic system failure. If you do over 5 loads of laundry a week using bleach, problems could arise. Avoid powdered detergents, as they contain non-biodegradable fillers that can plug your system.
I'm not sure but I use liquid Comet & after using the comet, I swish some Pine Sol around in the toilet, let set for a little while, before flushing.
I also use bleach to clean my toilet, It can ruin the good bacteria eating the you know what.get some Rid-X and follow the instructions it will keep good bacteria in the septic tank.
Get some Rid X and use it before and after using bleach. because bleach will kill bacteria;, after all thats what bleach is for, to kill germs right? I wouldn*t use bleach more than once a week or less.
u really dont need to use all that much bleach to clean a toilet bowl. a couple of ounces will do it. if u are really concerned about killing bacteria in septic system then when u are down scrubbing bowl, then let bleach sit in toilet. the chlorine will evaporate into air after a few hours. i assume u are not cleaning toilet daily so u should be fine.
