I used a cooking pot to bail out some really dirty water, I washed it 5 times, is it good to drink out of?
Question:I washed it like 5 times with brillo and soap. is it safe to use for cooking again?
Answers:
If it is porous in anyway I would say NO.
Like wood, scratched Teflon, or deep scratches in metal.
1) Boil water in it
2) use very hot water to wash.
3) Use a double rinse.
First rinse - very hot water with bleach (it kills bacteria, e-coli, and aids)
Second rinse - just hot water to remove some of the bleach smell.
Then use your best judgment as to whether you can emotionally put it in your past.
cook a curry in it.That kills all germs
Boil water in it. That can help kill germs. Then I'd say cook away.
The best thing to do is sterilyze it. Just put it on the stove and boil water for 5 minutes if you're concerned. Dump out the water and it's fine.
I would take 2Tablespoons of white vinegar and fill with water, and boil. The acid in the vinegar will make sure its cleaned and sanitized.and remove all germs.
I would use a cup of bleach to the water (fill the pot) let it set for an hour and empty it out. Then use clean rinse water and boil it . Do the rinse water three times until you cannot smell the bleach anymore. Bleach kills everything. I used this method washing dishes, pots and pans etc when we had a clubhouse flooded with dirty river water. I just don*t think boiling alone will kill germs like bleach does.
