I was given some bamboo cooking utensils and I'm wondering if I can clean them in the dishwasher?

Question:I know that I can't put regular wood in there, is bamboo the same? I don't want to ruin it, should I continue to wash it by hand?

Thank you!

Answers:
most dishwashers have a cycle that will fill with water then heat it up to at least 180 degrees F. before they start the wash cycle. this is not good for an organic material such as bamboo, it would cause a great swelling and possible non use of the utensil after the wash cycle. it would be best to wash them in a warm water sink and dry them as soon as possible.

Wash by hand only, the dishwasher will ruin them.
Everything I've read on these great utensils say to hand wash in a mild soap. I'd keep doing it if I were you.
Its best to wash by hand. Being in water that long compounded by the heat will cause the untensils to split over time.
