A little help please? Cleaning people!! I need your help!?
Question:I am starting my own little home and small business cleaning service to make extra cash while in school. I'm not sure how to price. Does anyone have any insight? Also should I supply all cleaning supplies or does the customer or is it depending upon the job? Any help to get me on my way is appreciated.

What a great idea for a business. The first responder is absolutely right about checking for pricing in your area. You also have to consider the size of the place. For example, my mother has a 4 bedroom house, and she pays the house cleaner $150 each time she comes; while I have a 2 bedroom loft and I pay $90 each time she comes. We use the same person, she just charges different rates depending on space. Our house cleaner gave us a list of products to purchase for her use when she comes to clean. We keep them in a bucket, and she just grabs the bucket when she comes over. I think that's a personal choice though; some people may have a preference on the types of materials you use to clean their homes; just consult with your client and make the decision together. I would lean towards asking them to supply their own materials though.
Be sure to advertise on your campus bulletin board, local apartment complexes, and on the web. I had a friend who started a cleaning business while we were in high school, and she was able to purchase her own home before our second year of college.
Good luck! Hope you found this useful.
You should research what other companies are charging in your area. I would bring my own cleaning supplies. If a customer wants you to use their supllies, you might want to offer them a lower price. Good Luck!
By the hour is how you should price, you don't want to charge 20.00 for a house that just needs some weeky maintainance and then charge 20.00 for a hell hole. you can also go and look at what you will be doing and then give an estimate, that gives people time to think about what they want you to do. Also you should supply cleaning items but take them with you when you leave.
You will also have to have injury liability insurance... and be bonded for loss/theft. Some homeowners want a specific brand of cleaners used, and some will let you use whatever you want...
You will have to be licenses and insured in case something gets broken in your cleaning. Or if you are injured on the job.
I know I would never allow anyone in my home to clean unless the were licensed. I have to many valuable items. And being my husband and I have allergy's only certain products can be used.
I have a three bedroom home. But all they where allowed to clean was the 2 bathrooms and the large kitchen and they charged us $70.00 ea time [ this was Merry Maids ]..
10 bucks an hour, You will get lots of buissness, people are messy and need good maids. Vaccuum, Dust, Pick Up, Clean out Fridge, The works.
Oh Yeah, Good Luck!!
i have been cleaning for years. i find the best thing to do is see how big the job is first. then see if it is going to take a long time to clean .some people are more messy then other. if u are not sure how long u are going to be there then i would charge by the job. if u can figure about how long it is going to take u then charge by the hour.i personally like to charge by the job some days i clean faster then others.and the people can just leave your money there.as far as the cleaning supplies ask them what they prefer. if u are to supply the products then make sure u allow for that expense also when figuring out what to charge take into consideration the miles u will have to travel to get there.the going rate where i live is 12 dol a hr. now i have some that gave me a raise and i make14 dol a hour.the number one thing i can say to u is when u are cleaning do it like u would do your owen home. dont always put stuff back where u got them from when dusting. that way they know u dusted.good luck and i hope this helps u.
My husband and I used to have a business cleaning display homes. It took the two of us about l hour to clean a 4 bedroom house, two baths and an office. We charged thirty dollars a house, you can probably get more now. (I would say fifty) You look at a house and figure how long it will take you to clean it, what the person wants done etc.
Do they expect you to clean inside a frig? Clean a dirty stove, oven? That all adds up. A lot of knick knacks that require dusting? We provided our own cleaning supplies, (From Zep Mfg, they have a laboratory behind them to help with cleaning problems).
Some people want you to use their cleaning products, if they do, I would not charge any less, because if they don*t work, you cannot be blamed. If you are a fast worker, and can clean four houses in a day, you make two hundred in 8 hours, and always clean the worst one last, so you can make better time Do Not Do Windows; Takes forever. Good Luck.
