Depends. They might become impermeable, impregnable, through more wearing, and then you wouldn't have to wear shoes when you go out.
I say "yes", though. My Mama used to tell me if my jeans didn't collapse to the floor after I took them off, I had better wash them before they walk away. Probably the same goes for your socks.
