What has your experience been on using a rug doctor?
Question:what is the best product to use with it? my main objective is to clean the carpet to help reduce allergens and parasites like mites and fleas. professionals cost too much.
Answers:
I started with the general cleaning bottle of rug doctor.Pretty good work ,carpet dried up after 8 hours
I've rented the steam cleaners at different supermarkets. Buy the product that is meant for that make of machine and follow the instructions slavishly. For this job, the slow way is really, truly the fast way.
We empty the room and then vacuum the carpet before shampooing. The waste water is always disgustingly filthy!
The carpet dries to a softness and fresh scent that is wonderful. My experience is that a couple of oscillating fans speed up the drying process, but that my medium pile wall-to-wall takes a full 24 hours to dry.
We used it a few times .. didn't really care for it tho. It would be to your advantage to buy your own machine, you wont be bringing in anyone else's dirt into your home. We bought a hoover "all terrain" does both carpets and floors. Money well spent I'd say !
no good at all
i rented a rug doctor from a local store when i was moving out of my apartment. it was only like $30 for 24 hours and the solution was about $13 so it was really cheap. its true that you have to really pay attention and it sucks having to change the water every 10 minuets but it really work wonderfully and since i was moving it had plently of time to dry out and it smelled nice.
Rug doctor rental at Home Depot for $35. Big and heavy but effective. They have solvents that reduce allergens, etc.
I have used it several times until I bought my own carpet cleaner. They work great and the best cleaning solution is the ones made for the machine you rent. ANd like another person said the slower the betterand the attachements work pretty well for a couch or chair.
