My new apartment smells so bad! What can I do?

Question:I recently moved into my apartment...and I cant get the stinky old, toilet, yuck smell out. Its everywhere in my apt. U smell it as soon as you walk in. :( what do I do? I have cleaned, scrubbed, sprayed, steamed, any other suggestions?

Answers:
Try putting bowls filled with charcoal in various spots throughout your apartment for a week or so. Charcoal absorbs odors, so it should help. If it doesn't, you've got something in your walls or carpet that isn't right.

If its a chemical smell it could have been a meth lab?
if you have done all that and still smell it, call the landlord and have him foot the bill to get rid of the smell.
use FREBEEZE
patchouli oils are very potent and long lasting.insence over time sticks really well. you may also try changing out the toilet. its actually, most of the time a very easy job and you can get a new one for less than $100 if you shop a bit.or contact apartment maintenance and have them change it or steam clean the place. fresh paint also can help.
candles... burn oils..open windows for long periods of time...
Fill about 4 small bowls of white vinegar and place them in different parts of the room. Leave them overnight and see the difference in the morning. If needed to be done again then do so. For the bathroom Keep a spray bottle filled with half vinegar and half water, for quick clean ups. That will also help the odors. Vinegar is an odor eater.
You should ask the landlord if he or she knows where that odor comes from. Does the toilet flush completely? I second the suggestion of Febreze - just walk through the apartment spraying it in the air; doesn't matter where the droplets fall. The vinegar in bowls of water idea would work too as would some cut lemons in bowls of water. But the most important thing is to find the source and correct the problem.
Try using some Lysol toilet bowl cleaner with bleach. Let set, then brush to clean.

My favorite thing is these small steam cleaners like the penguin steamer..look it up on the net...and use just steam to clean from top to the very bottom of the base. If you have carpet on the floor, chances are the urine odors in the carpet fibers where someone has missed their target.

Try cleaning around the base of the bowl as much as possible. (next to the floor) Try some bleach water or steam or Lysol spray.

Clean often all over and set some lemons or eucalyptus out to offset the odors. Febreeze really does keep things fresh.
Pour bleach down the toilet and let it sit all day...Flush before you use and it should get rid of the smell...Also, use baking soda on your carpet and leave overnight, vacuum it and it should help the smell
open windows open your door turn on fans, you can even spray febreeze air spray and use febreeze fabrics spray for your fabric. i suggest "cool waters and spring" smell.
