Can you put chenille couch pillows in the washing machine?

Question:I have 3 pillows that I'd love to wash but I don't want them to fall apart...is it ok to throw them in the washer? Thanks :)

Answers:
Is the fabric old? Are these vintage pillows or new? Does the cover come off the pillow, or are you talking about washing the entire pillow?

Chenille is fairly sturdy fabric, however, if it is a vintage pillow I wouldn't. It would be best if you could take the cover off the pillow was wash seperately. Otherwise you may have 2 problems on your hands, one being the chenille cover, but the other is the stuffing material inside the pillow. It may shift or bunch in the washer.

A safe bet would be to hand wash them in the sink or bathtub wiht a mild clothes detergent, gently swishing them, rinsing well, wringing out the best you can without twisting them. Hang on a line or lay on towel out of direct sunlight to dry. You can fluff up the chenille with your hand.

wait did you mean *chanel?* but maybe it would be best to hand wash them, and leave them to dry.
Just wash them in the gentle cycle and then dry them on low heat or tumble dry.
they will probably start coming apart. the chenille is so loose it will shed a LOT, you may get by with washing them 1 time but may not. I'd use a damp rag and some febreeze to clean them up and then put in the dryer to fluff
Look for trash bags, one per each pillow. Open one of the seams and empty the stuffing inside the bags. Turn the covers inside out and shake them to eliminate the tiny remains of the stuffing. Set the washing machine to the "Delicate" cycle and wash them. Dry them in "Delicate" as well.

If you wash them with the stuffing inside, you are risking the stuffing to become clustered or it might disintegrate.
I used to be in the furniture industry and I will tell you it is almost NEVER ok to throw pillow covers or seat cushions into a washing machine.

Your best bet is to look at any law labels that might remain on the sofa and find out who the manufacturer was. Try to contact them and have them give you the fabric manufacturer's cleaning code for the specific fabric used. This web page explains what the codes mean: http://web1.msue.msu.edu/imp/mod02/01500...

The only way I would throw these into a machine would be if I had decided there was no salvation and, if this fails, I will buy a new sofa. You should expect a disaster and be happy if things turn out better. Machine washing the pillows is a bad idea. And if you do this against my advice, definitely take out the stuffing first.

Have you tried calling an upholstery cleaning company to see what they would charge to come out and clean them?
