Does anyone know a good product to remove rust stains in a shower/tub surround?
Question:We recently bought a brand new one from Lowes (Sterling brand by Kohler) and installed it about a month ago. I am now seeing rust stains building up and don't know what to use to remove it. I use a daily shower spray but that doesn't seem to help. I have tried Limeaway but no use either. The shower surround and tub are made of vikrell. I don't want to use something that will eat away at it just to get rid of the stains either (at that rate we'll be buying another one in about 5 years). Thanks for any info.

There's a product called "CLR" . CLR stands for Calcium, Lime and Rust. K-Mart, Target, Walmart, Home Depot carry this as well as other stores. This product removes the rust your are talking about. But before you go out and buy it, have you tried just using something like softscrub and one of those green scrubbie things? Rinso makes them and they are green nylon scrubbing pads. Good luck.
CRL or CLR I dont remember which. Check out Lowes they carry it or try Home Depot. Or try Kaboom that works on a variety of stains.
Basic ammonia. It works wonders on rust stains. I would be concerned with my water quality, however, if your shower stains that easily - and permanently. You may want to invest in a whole house water filtration system. I had a friend that bought one at Lowes for $500ish, so not too bad. The salt and such will need to be budgeted for.

Here is their website, which doesn't give much specifics. Is the rust stains coming from your water? Or where? The best solution in the future is going to be prevention, maybe rinsing with rust free water after use.
I would suggest contacting their customer service department and asking them. You don't want to do something to void your warranty.
A product called ZAP. You can order it on-line. I have very hard water and the rust stains made me crazy, This works better than anything I have ever bought.
Also I have used eraser(i think they are made by Mr Clean) they work good for rust.
CLR works wonders. We have well water that comes out of the faucet orange because of the rust. CLR gets everything sparkling white again.
The only other product you might try is WD40. Do you have well water if so it is the water. When using the Wd40 spray it on a cleaning rag then wipe the shower/tub surround. My suggestion after using your shower rinse down and wipe down dry after every use and you will not get rust or water build up. Soap scum too.
Unfortunately, there isn't much on the market that will get rid of rust stains, but won't eat away at the surface. CLR works, as does The Works tub & tile cleaner for bathrooms.
When I moved in with my fiance last year, he had horrible rust all over his tub and shower walls (we have well water). I took my mom's advice and used this magnificent stuff, and it took some scrubbing, but it definitely went away!
Just don't use it all the time, as it will disintigrate your tub and shower walls. I use it about once a month or so, then I use Kaboom weekly to clean.
Good Luck!
