Gas smell in car and on cooler..?

Question:Yesterday my Mom and Dad went and got some gas for the lawn mower, and put it in a gas can then sat it in the back of the van. We had to do some grocery shopping before we went back home, so we had our cooler with us in case we got some cold items. (We live 45 minutes away from the store.) When we got back to the car, some of the gas had leaked out the top of the can, onto the floor and on the cooler. The smell came out of the van, but not the cooler. Does anyone know how to get rid of that gas smell on the cooler? Thanks for any ideas.

Answers:
try a thick paste of baking soda and water and let it sit on the cooler overnight. Its cheap, so if it doesnt work you wont be out much :)

get another cooler. No, really. You could clean it with bleach and water but I think there would be a lingering smell.
