What happens when a check goes through the wash?
Question:I recently lost a check and I think I kept it in the pocket of my pants as I put them in the washing machine. After they were washed and dried, the pants came out with absolutley no traces of paper bits. I was wondering if checks completely dissolve in a washing machine. Does anyone have experience and know what happens to checks in washing machines?

I Have had a few customers do that.
And some made it and some didnt. I would guess where the check is from (Company or personal) It also depends on the washer and hot water,speed and so on, Fior the most part you get the check back but its not in good shape at all not good enough to cash atleast. Also if it was in a pocket was the pocket tight would it of held it in place?? There are alot of variables in this.

No, they do not completely dissolve. You would have scraps all in the wash, or if it was deep in the pocket, the ink would wash off and you would get a discolored piece of paper
I had it happen to me once, and it was a complete lost, but I was able to have a new one written over
I haven't had this experience with a cheque, but have had similar with paper and tissues in pockets. Unless the cheque was well-secured in your pocket, you would likely have had little bits of it all over your laundry when you took it out of the washer. The paper would have "ripped" up in the wash. No traces, no cheque.
Another possiblility is that the cheque formed a ball in the bottom of your pocket and you would have felt a "lump" in your pocket. No lump, no cheque.
Perhaps you put the cheque in some other pocket or in your wallet. Failing any of those, I think you've lost it elsewhere or simply misplaced it.
My first thought was it went with my lost socks. But guess you're serious. I've noticed with any paper left in the pockets, some trace is left either in the pocket or the washing machine. If you didn't see any, did you totally retrace your steps? I've found things this way that still wonder why I put it down at that spot! Good luck.
