How do you remove permanent marker from wood?

Question:Without damaging the wood surface...It's a new table and my sons got permanent marker on it.

Answers:
Have you tried hair spray? I'm not sure it works on permanent marker, but I know it works on ink pens. Use a dry clean cloth. You could also try WD-40. Good luck.

well u can use white out and then pait it the color u want it to be.
It's permanent for a reason... I honestly don't think it will come off Honey sorry! did you try alcohol?
You put a bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth, and wipe it off. Not alcohol as in beer, but rubbing alcohol. It's in a translucent container and it looks like water and smells nasty.

You could also wipe purell or other hand sanitizer, which contain alcohol.
i would try stotch guard cleaner for woof, if that dont work try the mister clean white sponge thing.!!!!!
Thats a tough one. I would suggest you use a DAMP rag with some baking power on it and rub very gently. Try not to get it wet though. Or, you might try to rub it out with fresh lemon juice. Careful not to bleach it. Then, you can wash it with Murphys oil soap and then put some Old English oil on the whole table to help protect it. Good luck.
The thinners they use in the marker works as a good remover. So if the marker didn't penetrate into the wood then take the marker and trace over a small section and rub hard with a slightly damp cloth. Only do an inch or two at a time.
There were little dots of permanent marker on my pine table (which my grandaughter had done).I had heard toothpaste could remove marks,so I tried it and it did remove the dots.I put toothpaste all over the marker dots, then wet an old facecloth, rubbed until it came off.My table was'nt damaged from the toothpaste.I was really surprised it worked.
My mom got it off the stair railing with Murphy's Oil Soap. I have no idea (innocent look) how it got there. It took her a little time. You cannot tell it was ever there.

My mom just said depending what the wood is, you might be able to sand it. Because doing that.
If you have ever heard of the Mr. Clean magic eraser that might work.
Try the magic eraser sponge. Worked for me.
Try spraying permanent marker with hairspray - it will melt away. I have not tried it on raw wood but it works on lacquered, painted wood, metal, plastic, and clothing.
if none of the above work try a set of coasters or a nice vase
WD 40 works wonders. By the way dont use the magic eraser on wood surfaces! I tried it and it ruined the finish.
Permanent Marker Stain Removal from Wood Furniture
To remove a permanent marker stain from wood furniture, there are a few options available. You could try WD-40, non-gel toothpaste, or possibly baby wipes. Also, I´d suggest a bit of alcohol on a white cloth or paper towel, or visiting an office supply store to get a commercial felt pen ink remover. I would also recommend trying the method you choose on an inconspicuous area of the wood first to ensure that it doesn´t damage the finish.

i tried the rubbing alcohol thing on wood before, and it took the shiny finish off-what worked for me was this stuff called SD-20. It is in a blue aerosol can. I am not sure where it came from because my husbancd bought it but probably a hardware store
Believe it or not, my father used Elmer's School Glue! He just put a good thick bead of it on top of the marked spot, let it dry, and peeled it off. It took a few applications, but it peeled up enough of the ink to where he could take a damp cloth and wipe up the remaining ink mark!

And by the way, the Glue will NOT damage the finish on the wood!
