How to clean comforters?

I've asked myself the same question, because it's expensive to have it dry cleaned and because I don't exactly trust what chemicals they use.
Someone told me you can put them into a very large washing machine with soap and water, but the drying time is extremely long. You have to be sure it is VERY dry, or mildew might happen. If you use the dryer you have to add a couple of clean sneakers to kind of beat the comforter as it turns.
By the way, I am assuming your comforter has down feathers in it. If it is acrylic stuffing, then by all means use the washing machine.

I take mine to the dry cleaners! Comes back like new every time.
I would DEFINITLY advise to take it to a dry cleaner...OR to a laundry place...I have made a big OOPS in the past..trying to wash my own...the first time...i overflowed the washer because it was too big and the second time it ripped part of my comforter!!
I take mine to the laundry mat and do them there. It is much too big for a regular size washer and dryer. Be sure the dryer is big enough to loosely put it in before you begin or you'll never get it dry. It has to have lots of room to move so dont even try putting more than on comfortor in the dryer.
