You can prevent t-shirts from shrinking by doing two things:
First, wash them in cold or cool water. Second, dry them on delicate or hang them up to dry them. It is the heat of the water and/or the dryer that shrinks them. Or you can buy 100% polyester t-shirts. They dont really shrink, but they also dont breathe.

Cotton is what shrinks. Lightweight 100% cotton is going to shrink. The cold wash and hang dry is the best thing to do but will postpone and not stop shrinkage.

wash in cold water and dry on low...take out of dryer before completely dry and hang dry.
