Can i buy used rugs and steam clean them?

Question:i often see at a local thrift store good used area rugs can I steam clean them with a good grade steam cleaner and they be good for my home?

Answers:
Steam cleaning can be very damaging to rugs of any kind. You can have them cheaply professionally cleaned in a much safer manner by a company that uses a circular extraction process.

Call around and ask questions. DO NOT go with anyone that uses steam or immerses them in vats of liquid.

It all depends. Theoretically, yes you should, but it does depend on several factors.

The make of the rug. Is it cotton or wool or a more durable fabric like polyester.

What kind of stains does it have...Or are you looking for rugs with no visible stains?

Alot of times a good vaccuum might be all they need.
Sure, just make sure there are no bad stains or odors that you won't be able to remove before buying.=)
