Any milk based product on a carpet is a nightmare.
I scrapped a car once after I spilt milk on the carpet.

scrub it with Coke cola, it will neutralise the smell, then wash the coke out with warm soapy water. works on baby sick and its what they use on the aeroplanes.

After cleaning it try using fabric softener on it.
simple green. It's found in the cleaning section or in the automotive section. It got rotten orange juice smell out of my carpet in my car.
