I was very sick last night and lost control of my bladder in bed. How can I clean my mattress?

Question:Not trying to be too graphic or anything, but I've been very sick these past few days and last night I lost control of my bladder in bed. My mattress now smells like urine and unfortunately I can't afford to replace it anytime soon so I need to clean it somehow. Can you give me some suggestions?

Thanks!

When my daughter wets the bed I try to soak the urine up with paper towels as soon as she does it, and then clean it...but sometimes I do not find it until in the morning and then it is dried. So this is what I do.I soak the spot that is urine stained (you can usually see it) with water using a spray bottle. Then I take paper towels and push as hard as I can (downward) to soak up the water. Of course, you are trying to get the urine that has went down into the mattress. You should notice that your paper towels will have a little bit of yellowed color to them. I continue to soak up as much water as I possibly can.

Then I come back with carpet cleaner and spray the spot again. After you follow directions on the can, I use a household cleaning brush to scrub the spot. Then I just soak up the carpet cleaner with more paper towels. I usually come back with the spray bottle of water and paper towels...just to make sure I get most of the chemicals from the carpet cleaner out of the mattress. Then I allow for this to dry.

After the mattress has dried...I soak the stained spot with "FEBREEZE" (and sometimes I lightly spray all over the rest of the mattress--to get rid of any other smells). This helps remove any odor that may be left. Let the mattress dry and you can always repeat the "FEBREEZE"!

I hope this works...if not I would say you might want to try to power wash your mattress outdoors..and if that does not work you may have to just burn the thing, and get a new one:-)

I have cleaned plenty of mattresses of my children that have wet the bed and I soak the spot down with shout in the spray bottle and scrub the spot and then I try to soak it with water to try and dilute the spot cleaner and then I use a shop vac that is made to soak up water and try to suck all the water out. I also like the idea of using the febreeze that was mentioned in the other answer. Also, if you think you might be this sick for a while, why don't you invest in a waterproof mattress cover to put over the mattress? Not only does it make the bed a little softer but it protects it as well. Good Luck and I hope you get well soon.
Get some cleaner that is for pet accidents and spray it on the spot. I saturate the spot with cleaner then use a carpet shampooer (the furniture attachment) to get all the stuff from inside the mattress. Keep a floor fan on the mattress to dry the wet spot so there is no stain left. Then once it is dried just febreeze it. I have a dog that has wet the bed in his sleep. This works great!!
