Bottle caps and pebbles in garbage disposal... HELP!?

Question:A few small pebbles and some bottle caps and can caps fell into the garbage disposal. I turned it on with water running and it worked for a few seconds... now it seems that the blades aren't turning at all when I turn it on, although it does make noise.

Is there any way to open this and clean it. I am moving out tomorrow and don't want the landlord to charge for this

Do what the above answerer said, but make sure you unplug it first, or shut off the breaker that controls power to it. Also, after you put it back together, be sure to press the little red button on the bottom to reset it. If it still won't start, use a hex wrench in the bottom of the unit (you'll see where it goes) and give it a turn or two to free up the blades.

I had the same problem. First try to remove them by sticking your hand in it and getting all the rubble out. If your hand doesnt fit find someone with smaller hand. If that doesnt help you have to take the unit apart. Not too complicated if you are DIY friendly. Unplug all hoses and rotate it so the whole unit comes off. Careful for the wires. As far as i remember you do not need any kind of screwdriver to disassemble it. Mine is insink errator or something of that sort.
Yes . But I would not worry about the landlord ,because it's no big deal. Most disposals come with an allen wrench and have an allen bolt that will turn the blades either way. It's located dead center on the bottom.Put the wrench in the scocket and turn it back and forth. This should loosen the debris. Then if you can, reach in and remove the pebles, etc.
BUT PLEASE MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF WHEN TOU DO THIS! ..Another way is to unclamp it fron the sink and clean it out. But like I said its no big deal and I'm sure the super has had similer situations with garbage disposals.
But don't keep on running it because it will pop it's breaker, (a little RED button on the bottom). But the super should be able to fix it with no problem!
