Answers:
Acetone – the strongest consumer-grade solvent available. You need laboratory grade. It's stronger than what's in nail polish remover.
Acetone works better/faster on metal; but it will work on wood, too with more rags and elbow grease.
Hairspray for both. Any type will work. Goo gone also works great on both if you have some. Hairspray is what I have always used!!
Try WD40 spray oil a rag and a lot of elbow grease
Also might want to try WD-40 (comes in a "pen" now).
To get it off metal, use that gel-alcohol hand sanitizer or goo-gone.
On wood. tricky, the best is to paint over it, if that isn't in the question you could try a bleach pen and goo-gone.
If it's precious wood (like mahogany, english oak, cherry, bamboo, and high elm) you need to take it to a carpenter and have them use the sand-and-stain technique.
I don't know, but Mr. Clean Magic Eraser gets a lot of things off (good to have around, even if it doesn't help with your problem).
Have you tried just plain alcohol? I have a book the Queen of Clean and that is what she says to try!!
Good Luck!
