Best Vacuum Cleaner under $70?

Question:Need a good, reliable, effective vacuum cleaner for a carpeted 1-bedroom apartment. Considering a canister style vac. or some kind of shop vac even, rather than uprights.

Answers:
About 4 years ago I bought a bissel bagless for around 96. Now, today you can get the same model for 68. I love it. I couldn't tell you the exact model name, just that its a bagless. Now the only thing I found to be bad about bagless is that they can get messy, if your not careful and they don't seem to hold as much as the ones with bags. But they easy factor is like a 10! I bought mine at Walmart.

I know of a great vacuum wayyyyyy over 70$. but maybe this will help. Try to find one with a HEPA filter. It traps much, much more than a normal vacuum filter. Be sure to care for it as directions instruct.
Okay here's the truth. After my mother passed away my father moved "back home" while his belongings (furniture, dishes, vacuum) and so forth were making the 2600 mile trip across the US he went to his local hardware store in the little town of 700 ppl that he lives in and bought the Shark Bagless Stick Vacuum so that he could vacuum his floors and keep the house tidy while waiting on his more expensive (hoovers,Dysons) to make it up to him. Well its been almost 2 yrs now and he still pulls that little Stick Vac out and uses it more then he does his other vacuums. He has a total of 2 uprights and 2 canastiers plus this stick vac that he uses. Its great on his kitchen floors his laminate floors AND his carpet. His house is much larger then yours so he has to empty the little container more often but it should work for you it was like only 30 bucks. The model number is EP600 Im sure they have a website..How do I know the model number? Because I couldnt believe the little thing cleaned so well so he bought me one for xmas! It also turns into a hand vac if you want to use it in your cars. Not sure what you consider "heavy duty" cleaning as we only use ours in our homes and to clean our cars this does not include wet spills, nails and so forth just general clean up.
I do not believe that spending $500 gets you a "better" vacuum. I have a $69 Bissell and it does everything you want.
I'm vac tech. Under $70.00 there are not a lot of choices, most of them bad. You definitely want to buy something with a bag in it. They are cheaper to maintain and hold up longer. Check out Walmart, The Bissell 3522. Machine has been discontinued but they might still have some since bagless is being pushed so hard. If you can find it, it will be well worth it. If not that, then go with the Hoover U5140-900. I have them in stock at my shop. $69.95
