How do I get rid of really really BAD odour in fridge and freezer?
Question:had a electricity problem and the fridge/freezer stood closed with meat, etc and no power for 30 days. Its awfull, please help.

First, get that dead body out of there. No! Just joking. Try putting abox of baking soda in for awhile. It will neutralize the odor.

Activated charcoal. Or if you can't find those, a bag of charcoal from the grocery store does this trick for me. ;)
Wash inside of fridge with vinegar & hot water. Then place fridge baking soda box in each.
try to put vinegar in a bowl and put it in the fridge, or coal (thing used in grilling). these things are effective in absorbing odours ;)
After you have cleaned them both. Put vanilla on a cloth and wipe over the walls and trays. also I believe bi-carb in an opened packet will do the job too. Vanilla smells nicer.
Get a new fridge
First you need to clean anything out of it.
Then you want to disinfect and clean it so I would use bleach diluted with water (make sure to wear gloves) or a Lysol product.
Then I agree with the guy /gal above me and soak a cotton ball with vanilla extract and place in a dish in the fridge.
And of course a box of baking soda should be put in there as well!
I clean houses and offices. I use a product called Oda Ban. They use this product in some hospital. It is a good disinfectant and it will help get rid of the odor. Then after cleaning I would put baking soda in the freezer and the fridge.
Oda Ban is a natural product I use this in my own home. When house breaking our puppy last spring I used it on the pet stains. Also it is good on stubborn stains too.
First throw out all the food that has spoiled.
Then wipe out the fridge and freezer with a bleach and water mixture to disinfect.
Then place a peeled potatoe in the refrigerator and leave for a couple of days to remove odors.
Oh, no! I have had this problem. This is how I solved it, do this on a day when your fridge it not full, like before grocery day. First spread a towel on your kitchen table or counter top and place everything from fridge (mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, salad dressing, etc...) throw out any leftovers. From freezer, throw out any ICE - you'll need to make fresh ICE - if there is food get a cooler and ICE from a store and place the food in cooler with ICE on top of it.Take hot water as hot as your hands can stand unless you wear protective cleaning gloves and wash the whole fridge and freezer out with plain out water, this will remover all dirt. Depending on size of freezer, turn down the temputure control and place a small or medium plastic bowl of pure white vinger - turn down tempature to keep the vingers from freezing. Then place a medium or larger plastic bowl of pure vinger inside fridge. Let those set for about two hours. The vinger will absorb any unwanted odors. Place a box of baking soda in the door of fridge and freezer - they will need changing once a month to keep down odors. Wipe down bottles and containers of things going back into fridge with a dry towel to wipe off the moister they have collected from sitting outside of fridge.
