I have a blanket that is leaving fuzz ALL over the place- what do I do to stop it??
Question:I got this blanket as a wedding gift from Target
(search target.com for "BLANKET MICROPLUSH SAGE GRN" and you'll see what others think, too!)
Well, it is SOOOO SOFT... but after a week, left our entire bed and bedding COVERED in fluffy green fuzz... we wake up covered in it, in our hair, on our bodies, all over our clothes...
I don't want to get rid of the blanket... but I can't keep it like this! Was a gift, so no receipt, and I threw out the bag b/c it was fine for a week...
I washed it and dried it- redried it, and again--- emptied the lint trap FIVE WHOLE TIMEs... and it keeps coming.
Any suggestions? It really is a beautiful blanket...
Answers:
It's a lovely blanket, but unfortunately microplush is made of either acrylic or polyester superthin fibers and it looks like yours is made of polyester. It sounds like the superthin fibers are so delicate they are just snapping off. Its likely that they will continue to snap off and leave fuzz everywhere - especially if the blanket is made in China, which increases the chances of its being defective. The thing you may want to be more concerned about is the fact that these fibers are not just going onto your bedding and around the house - they are also being inhaled by your family. The reason I mention this is because polyester is a synthetic fabrics that is a petrochemical product. It contain a myriad of chemicals and volatile organic compounds that will offgas into your air, and the tiny fibers, if inhaled and lodged in your lungs, have the potential to cause some damage to your health. Target will usually let you return a product without a receipt and will give you store credit - as long as the identifying label is there.
This blanket is defective, and cannot be saved. Return it to the store and explain what you've written here.
Shave it with an electric razor. They have little machines that do the same thing and call them lint removers but they don't work as well as a cheap electric razor. (Former dry clean operations manager.)
