The place I just moved into has really dirty floors, what is the best way to clean them?
Question:I have tried clorox and water with a scrub brush and it gets it clean but takes alot of upper body strength, plus I am pregnant and it wears me out.
The floors where it is clean is almost 2 shades of tan-brown difference from the dirty floors.
Answers:
Try Murphy's Oil Soap and use it according to the instructions. Allow it to soak a little bit to loosen the dirt, then use a mop that has a scrubber on the other side. Wring out the mop often.
Murphy's Floor Oil does wonders for wooden floors. thats what i use and it hardley takes any work. if your pregnant, why dont you have your husband/boyfriend do it? you dont want the baby to be affected by doing too much hard work. when you do hard work, you usually get dehydrated and such.
I'm assuming you mean wood floors.
Wood Floor Maintenance
Most wood floors can be kept clean by first sweeping or vacuuming with a floor nozzle to remove most of the surface dust and dirt, then damp mopping with clear water (dip a sponge in clear water, squeezing it out so that the mop is barely damp, almost dry). Use very little water and rinse your mop thoroughly after each use since excess water can dissolve protective coatings, alter the color of the wood and raise the grain to roughen the surface.
If your floors are not dirty enough to need mopping every week, then you should not do it, as it will wear the floors faster, not to mention waste your time. Simply sweeping is often all they need.
If need to restore the shine to your wood floor after you get it clean, try damp mopping it with 1/2 cup vinegar and 2 tablespoons furniture polish in a gallon of warm water. Vinegar is also useful for removing any soap residue or build-up, but should not be necessary every week
Good Luck! =)
If you are talking linoleum tiles I just had this problem and used dish washer soap and they came up nice and clean.
this was after trying every thing else. I then did a rinse of vinegar and water and they look like new
the floor probably have a wax build up from years of clean and waxing. Ammonia will strip off the old wax. The stronger the solution, the quicker it will work. But since you are expecting, please clear it with the doctor first. Since you have used Clorox, don't worry, the floor are sanitary, they just look dirty. Maybe you could talk a friend or relative into striping the floors with ammonia for you.
