How do you get a smell out of a leather couch?
Question:We were recently given a used leather couch and it has this smell. Not sure what the smell is. I think it is just the smell from the people's home who owned it before. (you know how people just have their own smell?)
We have washed it and wiped it down but it still smells funky.

Maybe introducing your smell long enough will mask the other one, but it's a time honored practice and cannot be rushed.
a professional cleaning can take care of that. I'm a certified professional carpet and upholstery cleaner, my first leather couch was being thrown out by a customer. He had just moved into a new house. His old house had a wood fireplace and the new one had a gas fireplace. The couch smelled of wood smoke. he tried wiping it down and couldn't get the smell out. He offered me the couch. I gave it a professional cleaning and the smell was gone. Just mention the problem with the cleaner so he knows what your expextations are.
