Smelly dustbin?
Question:Does anyone know what i can use to get rid of an awful smell in my household waste dustbin (wheelie bin) Its been smelling awful for a while now and although whenever waste is put in the bin, its put in a bag first, something has leaked out into the bottom of the bin and it is smelling really digusting. I waited until it was emptied today and then hosed it out with hot water and bleach then tried as best i could to clean it out but obviously its too big really. Then i emptied the bleachy water out, rinsed it again and poured in disifectant this time with some water and emptied it again. I carried on with this process 4 or 5 times but it still smells, i also put some bin freshener in there but because it still smells, it wont do any good. Any ideas, serious ones only please, thanks

if you have an old mop use this to get right to the bottom give it another good wash out using lemon juice in very hot water then fill mop bucket up again using hot water and 4 dessertspoons bicarbonate soda then lay it on its side with lid open for a couple of hours smell will have gone ...when its completely dry put a small amount of bin freshener in,i also put a stick on air freshener inside lid ...hope this helps hun ...
Just lie the bin on its side with the lid open. The smell will clear in a few days.
wash it with lime/ lemon juice and soda crystals...it will get rid of the dirty smell and give nice fresh lemon/lime smell which will last till again nasty things goes in...
wipe out and spray with amonia let sit for awhile or you can sit a container of amonia in bottom to absorb odors...
We have someone come round once a fortnight to clean our wheelie bin. It's well worth the money after a particularly smelly time last summer it never smells unpleasant now. I've noticed that after jetting the bin with some disinfectant solution they finish the job off by leaving a thin layer of what looks and smells like disinfectant in the bottom of the bin. So maybe you could try that?
use zoflora bin gel it works
Where i live we have people who run wheelie bin cleaning services, they seem ok, get rid of the remnants and smells! There's a business opportunity for you if you don't know of a cleaning company.
Put a tray of BBQ charcoal bricks in the bin (close lid) and change the bricks every day for a few days until the smell disappears. Dispose of the bricks...can't imagine what smells might be released if burnt!
invest in a power washer,i picked one up in Morrison's supermarket for£25.00 its a good little thing for the money? if you start bleaching it and jet wash it out every time its emptied you shouldn't have a problem? i do this ,as well as using wheelie bin liners, which are heavy duty,so prevent tearing?
Make sure you wrap up any leftover food in carrier bags so nothing can leak out.You can buy little sticky pads to go in the bin that are scented.Fold some kitchen paper, or newspaper and line the bottom of the bin with it, trickle on some disinfectant.Every time you change the bin, change the liner.Make sure your bin isn't close to sunlight too, as this can cause it to stink when the house is locked up on a hot day.
When you take the trash out next time dump some baking soda in the bottom of the trash can before you put a new bag in it. Baking soda absorbes the bad smells.
hi i start off by putting things in nappy bags and then i when the bins have been empted i use netrodol. its a power you can put on carpets before hooving and it takes away smells it also works in bins just put some in the bottom of your bin and when you open it it wil smell nice!
Pour a bottle of barbecue lighter into it and light a match, that should clear the smell.
try jeyes fluid, and leave it in over night with the lid open, that really is the best to use, zoflora is pretty good but not as good as jeyes fluid, hope it works for you.
It sounds as if you have cleaned the inside of the bin properly - how about the inside of the lid and the outside and bottom of the bin?
