I have just had laminate floor installed and would like to know how best to clean it.?
Question:I am really grateful to my son for installing laminate floor in my house. I want to take care of it so I would like to know the best way to take care of it. I use Murphys oil soap on most wood things but I need to know if this is safe and also how to keep dust from collecting on it. is there a cleaner that is best to control dust?
Answers:
I have Kronotex Mountain Maple laminate floors in my home. I just sweep (with a broom or dust mop)them daily sometimes twice a day {have a 12 month old and dogs that's why). As for cleaning sometimes just a mop and clean water, a mop and Lysol or pine-sol.Dont soak the floor just a damp mop will do wring it out well. Never use harsh cleaners on it. how to prevent dust from collecting, good luck unless your home is 100% dust free and no home is its not gonna happen.
If the floor warps when you get it moist through routine moping and cleaning it was not installed properly or it was cheap flooring. Hardwood floors are more at risk for water damage then are laminate flooring. I tried the swiffer wetjet and didnt like the streaks left behind
use a swiffer on it every few days. i wouldn't use oil soap on it because it might damage it.son't put water on it...it will cause it to warp.
Lowe's sells laminate flooring cleaner, I bought it for a while. I just use swiffer now, it works just the same. There is maintenance with buying the cleaner and disposable pads, but I believe it's much cleaner than a traditional mop and bucket!
i use swiffer wet jet and a swiffer sweeper!
DONT GET IT TOO WET IT WILL WARP!
muphys soap is okay to use even a mild soap and water will work. Myself working in plywood and making laminate floors would do the same to take care of the cleaning. Dust mops are a must and dust them every day while mopping twice a week and dusting them at least every other day. having hard wood or laminate u have to keep in mind that alot of glue is use and the boards are pressed and we all know that water will hurt wood in the long run. Keep the dust down by dust mopping is very important!
I have Pergo flooring in my house and have tried just about everything that you could possibly imagine to keep it shiny and clean looking. That being said, most conventional cleaners that are marketed for laminate flooring leave streaks, including the Pergo brand floor cleaner and Murphy's oil soap. I found a steam mop made by Bissell that works pretty well but beware that you can't leave it in one spot for too long or it will literally leave a burn mark. I also like microfiber cloths dampened with water---very little streaking and the floor dries fairly quickly. Hope this helps and good luck with your new floor.
I have had my laminate floor for a couple of years and have tried several cleaning methods. I have a dog and keep 2 of my grandchildren 45 hours a week, so my floor needs to be cleaned often.
I've found that a dust mop, a Quickie Twist Mop, vinegar, and water are all it takes to keep the floor looking nice.
Use the dust mop as often as needed and when you need to mop use the twist mop. The mop should only be slightly damp, as the planks will warp if you get much water on them. If you don't have a lot of traffic in your house, you might be able to mop with a spray bottle of vinegar and water. I have to use a bucket and wring the water out of the mop and then let it hang a few minutes (good time to take a break) to let any excess water drip out, then mop.
I also turn on the ceiling fans and set a box fan to blow across the floor. That's seems to help eliminate streaking caused by mopping.
Good luck with finding a cleaning method that works for you and enjoy that new floor!
verry mild soapy water!
PLEASE do not use Murphy's oil soap on laminate - it will leave a hazy, dirty film.
Armstrong and Bruce both make hardwood/laminate cleaner that you can pick up at Lowe's or Home Depot. Kit comes complete with dust mop.
