What can I use to get grout lines clean?

Question:I live in a basement apartment that, in the past, has been prone to flooding from the backyard.. because the runoff water came from the yard, it came loaded with dirt and mud. My floors are beige with (what used to be) white grout.. My parents put the floor in themselves and I don't believe they sealed the grout.. so the dirt (after 3-4 floodings) has completely soaked in.. The floor now looks like it has dark brown/black grout.. it's disgusting..

I tried the bleach pen but it took me 4 hours to get a 3x3 section to a moderate gray.. this is the best result I could muster.

what can I do aside from ripping it up and starting over again?

Answers:
Mr. Clean Magic Erasers work wonderful. They are a little pricey, but well worth every penny. Quick, easy, and doesn't require a lot of elbow grease.

I am a self proclaimed "clean freak" with 1200sq ft of light colored tile with white grout. My grout needs a good scrubbing every few months because of the two dogs, two kids, and a filthy husband. The Magic Erasers haven't failed me yet. PS. the grout cleaners at home improvement stores work okay, but not nearly as fast of efficient when compared to the erasers.

Good Luck

Bleach soaked into a sponge and applied liberally will make the grout as white as when it was new. Remember to wear plastic gloves.
Judi--Judi--Judi---your parents do not love you--let you live in such filthy living conditions. Hope you are not paying rent. The mold and mildew growing in the basement will make you violently sick. I am gona tell you not to do anything--move back up stairs and get out of the basement. Let your parents fix the problem. It is not your house--you just live their. If they say they cannot afford to fix the problem---not your fault or your obligation. Move out of the baement--trust me--move out.
They do have a special cleaner just for grout. I have used before and it does work. You can buy grout cleaner from a home improvement store such as Home Depot or Lowe's.
home depot sell a tool for that!!
50parts bleach 50parts water and a old toothbrush dip brush in solution and scrub grout let stand for a few minutes then wash off.
