My clothes shrink when i wash them. I think it's beacause of the dryer. What can i do to stop this!?
Question:and NO I am not gaining weight!
Answers:
I always use the gentle cycle lowest heat setting. The clothes dry just as fast and aren't damaged by the high heat.
Just hang them up to dry this way they will not shrink, I do it to several of my shirts!!
I wash my pants and shirts in cold water, and put in dryer for about 10 mins on low setting to remove the wrinkles, then hang to dry.
If you overdry or dry your clothes at too high of a temperature, the dryer will shrink them. As will washing in too hot of water.
Good luck!
If you can hang them up for a while to get dry and then just "fluff" them on low heat. If you can't hang them up then dry them on low heat. It is the heat that causes them to shrink. Also when you are washing don't wash in hot water it also shrinks things.
why dont you hang your clothes out to dry on the line, or if you have to use your dryer use the cool cycle. Also wash your clothes in cold water
yes, the dryer is what is shrinking them. follow the instructions on the garmet that tell you exactly how to wash it, that way, if it does still shrink, you can take it back to where you bought it. also, try drying close on a lower heat setting and washing with cold water (which also saves energy). you can also try line drying things that are more delicate or laying them flat to dry.
I don't put all of my things in the dryer. Most of my clothes, I let them air dry. This helps prevent color fading, too.
For your nicer clothes that can be washed, use the gentle or delicate cycle. When the washer is done, promptly take the clothes out & hang them somewhere to dry. One of the best places is in the bath, using the shower curtain rod.
Hope this helps! : )
I wash everything in cold water. I use amonia to help with stains and such (I don't measure but probably about 1/2 cup for really dirty loads). Things I don't want to shrink I hang to dry or lay flat on a screen over the tub.
For starters, start buying clothes with a little bit of synthetic fiber in them, like 70% cotton, 30% polyester. With this little amount of poly, clothes hold their shape, don't shrink that much and you can hardly tell the difference in the feel of the fabric.
Next, wash in cold water and just dry clothes for a short time and hang them up to dry the rest of the way.
Good luck
Wash your clothes in cold or warm and set the dryer to a lower heat setting. Most dryers will have a heat setting or a permanent press cycle that is usually lower heat. Also pay attention to the care instructions on the clothes and what they are made out of. If they are 100% cotton they are more likely to shrink. Look for clothing that is at least 10% nylon or polyester or for items that say preshrunk on the labels. Good luck.
If your clothes are made completely of cotton and not prewashed, this could be your problem. Try buying clothes with cotton/polyester blend, which should not shrink. Also, dry them on hangers, then iron them. Only use cold water to wash or try Woolite-it is supposed to keep clothes from shrinking. Good luck.
