Spider Bite?
Question:Hello, I have this swollen bite on my arm... it's itchy, red, and hot. Is this a spider bite? And if it is, is there any way to tell what kind of spider bit me? And is there anything to calm down the swelling and hot temature?
Thanks!
Answers:
I was bitten by a brown recluse (we think) about 5 weeks ago... my mother was bitten by one about 5 days ago. I had a softball size spot on my shin which was itchy, red, and hot... very hot. I looked for all kinds of herbal remedies and really it came down to going to the doctor... he put me on prednisone and my mother on antibiotics... rough but had to be done... although I would not reccomned the mega dose of prednisone because I had ALL the side effects. It has been 5 weeks and my bite is all gone, but I can put a pin into the red spot that is left and not feel it.
The neurotoxins from the spider leaves nerve damage, but because I treated early it is only a small spot. I would reccomend going to the Doctor ASAP. Oh and my dr said that there was really no way to know 100% sure what kind of spider bit me, but we are fairly sure it was a brown recluse because of the "rings" around the bite.
Good luck...
Kayleigh, I wouldn't play around with a bite like that. Your described symptons tell me that you need to see a doctor.
I had a friend that got bit by who knows what, he was hospitalized for a week.
Don't wait too long, it would be worth the trip.
put ice on it to cool the swelling...
also put a band-aid over it so you wont scratch it open and get infected if it itches...
Spiderman...Spiderman..
Go to the doctor!! They will be able to tell you for sure and treat you accordingly.
how long ago were you bitten?
it could be form a spider, or any kind of insect
if you were bitten more than an hour ago, and it is not cutting off blood circulation, it will not hurt you. if it was going to kill you or make you lose your arm or anything serious, it would be a lot worse than itchy red and hot.
i don't know what kind of insect or spider it was, and it may be impossible to tell, because different people react differently to their toxins.
if it was very recent, or if it continues getting worse, consult a doctor or poison control immediatly.
to eleviate the itchyness, i would suggest zinc oxide
You can try a baking soda and water paste, a powdered oatmeal and water paste, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol or vodka, ice cube for the heat, cortisone cream for the itch.
If its a bite that needs treatment, you will know in the next day or two if it gets alot larger and worse or if the center turns blackish. Otherwise, dont be alarmed.
