How long should I keep a down comforter?

Question:I've owned one for about 5 years- should I toss it and grab a knew one?

Answers:
mine was made by my grandma for my parents wedding back in 1954! if you live in the north - let it set outside or in the garage during the winter for a few freeze nights and it will take care of any shrinkage or such. if you're not - toss it in a dryer for about 20-30 minutes about once a year. i also have the pillow she made!

i have one thats 8 years old and i wont get rid of my linus blaky.
It depends. If you've taken care of it and it's in good condition I don't think you have to. If you are just bored by it and want something fresh you can always pick up a comforter cover to liven things up a bit. L.L Bean (www.llbean.com) has some nice ones and its much more cost efficient than just buying a new comforter.
If it is still in good condition then just get it drycleaned. This will give it a new life.

Then get a new cover. The down comforter should last for ages & 5 years is not that long if you have kept it good.
I wash mine in the washing machine on delecate...If your washing machine isn't large capasity take it to the laundry mat. However down comforter's really shrink down, I washed two of them at the laundry mat and a reg. comforter in a double load washer. Bring acouple tennis balls and dry it...Get a cover to protect it and it should be fine..
