Can I bleach it?
Question:I have a white comforter w/black flowers and its getting yellowish. Regular washing with shout didnt help. I want to bleach it but I'm afraid that the black flowers will fade. They are printed on. Does colorsafe bleach actually work?
Answers:
No don't bleach it will run and it will make the black lighter. Try using oxi-clean, I think this is great on whites and won't hurt coloreds. I no longer use bleach on my whites and they look great.
Color safe bleach is ok but I'm not sure it will whiten.I think you may have a hard water problem.Try using a water softener the next time you wash the comforter.
yes, color safe bleach actaully works. You might also try a detergent additive such as oxy - clean. It comes in a small plastic container and is in the laundry aisle with the other pretreaters. I was amazed at how much of a difference Oxy made.
I have a white cotton comforter cover that has small dark blue flowers and I used bleach after about the first ten washings. Anyways, it did not affect the flower print and it is as white as the day it was purchased.
Good luck.
I'm not sure I would use bleach on your comforter. But you might try borax or oxyclean.
use Borax
Add 1/2 cup borax and 1/4 cup white vinegar to the wash. Borax is agreat brightener and stain remover, plus it isn't toxic like bleach.
I would be afraid to bleach it. I would take it to the dry cleaners.
