Is it safe to use a refrigerator after it has been sitting for a year off with door shut and mold?
Question:Is it safe to use a refrigerator that has been sitting for a year with door shut and turned off with mold that had grown inside? We cleaned it with bleach but are'nt sure if it is safe to use.
Answers:
if you cleaned it all. should be Ok
I believe that if you give it a good cleaning, and I think that using bleach is a great cleaning, it will be fine.
clean it with bleach and your good
let it run for a bit and throw a box of arm and hammer in there
then smell it, if it still smells like mold you can try another bleach clean other wise get rid of it that means the mold has gotten into the back panel of the freezer and the fan is blowing the smell in.
If in doubt, throw it out.
that's is alittle gross.
if you cleaned it i guess it is alright.
you should check out sears. the fridges are cheap.

find some sort of light bulb that puts out UltraViolet rays (I'm guessing there should be some commercial use for this)
you can put in the fridge and run it overnight
this is how hospitals STERİLİZE operation rooms after they have used chemicals to clean up most of the stuff
Be very careful from the mold. It can kill you in less then 24 hours. If it is as bad as you say, I would not use it. The seal on the door is probably faulty. Don't use it.
I've been using mine for two years now I'm still ok, it was just difficult to clean it good and remove the smell (LOTS of baking soda and wipe the walls down with vinegar)
