How do I clean up spilled milk on rug/carpet?

Question:My daughter spilled milk a few days ago and never told me, now i have sour smell in a few spots.

Answers:
Pour baking soda over the area where the milk was spilled. Sprinkle cold water on top of the baking soda. Let stand overnight. Vacuum to remove baking soda. If the smell remains, try treating the area with white vinegar. Let sit for 15 minutes, then blot excess vinegar with paper towels. If vinegar fails to beat the stink, tackle it with an odor remover (preferably an enzyme odor remover like Nature's Miracle-if you don't have one try an odor remover such as OdoBan). These products use biological organisms that consume odors and can be found at stores that specialize in cleaning products. Allow the area to dry completely: residual moisture can cause mildew. Use a hair dryer or fan if necessary, being careful not to scorch carpet fibers with a hair dryer.

I would suggest a good cleaner. My suggestion is Oda Ban. This is a good product non toxic. Some hospitals use it. When breaking in our puppy last year I used this product to get the stains and smell out.

I might add a good disinfectant
