My black Capri's are fading, will the dye at the store make them darker?

Question:These are my favorites. They are a light material and look good. But they have faded slightly.
If I buy the dye from the grocery store and dye them... will it make them more black?
Also, if I dye them, does it help to soak them over night? Any tips on dying clothes?

Answers:
Yes the dye you buy will darken them. No need in soaking them over night just read directions. However to keep black from fading wash them with a couple of tablespoons of vinegar and that will keep them from fading again!
Always wash in cold water, also helps with black and red fading problems.

The dye will work and it will work best if you follow the manufacturers instructions instead of our guesses.
Yes it will darken them - just be careful when doing it. Wear gloves, use a wooden spoon and a bucket. Soak them in very hot water overnight. Ring them out and lay them out flat to dry (use an older towel). Don't stick them in the dryer because the dye will darken the metal (temporarily of course).
The pants will definitely get darker, but if the fading is due to worn spots, the fabric in those areas may not pick up as much of the dye and you will still have spots that are slightly lighter than the rest of the pants. If the fading is throughout the pants then dyeing will definitely help.
Another suggestion: In the future wash any of your darks.. including jeans, t-shirts, dark dress pants...In woolite on the gentle cycle inside out and DO NOT put them in the dryer to dry... It will fade them... Instead hang them to dry and if they get crunchy, put them in the dryer for a couple min w/ a damp wash cloth...
Yes, it will work well. Follow the manufacturer's directions, you should have no problems.
It will work best if the capri's are 100% cotton fabric. Synthetics like polyester and spandex don't absorb dye as well. Many clothes are treated against staining. If that is the case, your dye may not stay after rinsing. The best way to make sure that dye sets is to soak the garment in a lye solution (you can buy this at a craft store) before using the dye. Mix the dye with very hot water in a bucket and let it sit overnight. Then rinse thoroughly and launder as usual.
im not sure about the dye, but to prevent them form fading any further, put salt in your wash next time you wash them. or if you dye them, wash them with salt after that. it will set the dye.
