I've heard of using the following:
toothpaste for silver
ammonia for gold
Just be careful and use in small quantities with a clean, white rag. Good Luck!
amonia & water is basically what the expensive brands are...just with additives & perfumes!
Alkaseltzer or dental cleaning tablets..just add tablet and jewelry to water..
I just use regular Tide/other powder detergent well diluted in warm water for regular gold, silver jewellery.
Please use with care- on delicate items, spot test. Ivory liquid/ flakes works best for most jewellery.
Any items which may have been painted, enamelled etc. or have delicate finishes, use with discretion.
Pearls are delicate- clean with soft cloth, use only Ivory- no abrasive cleaners
I soak my diamond ring in Dawn dish soap and hot water. Then I use an old electric toothbrush head and clean it, then rinse. It sparkles beautifully after that. Just make sure you don't have any loose stones first.
I use regular PASTE toothpaste on mine, it works great!!
Tooth paste and if you want to clean silver, that doesn't have gems use equal parts of salt and baking soda, put a piece of foil in a bowl and make sure the piece is touching the foil. You can literally see the the silver get clean.
You can use toothpaste or hydrogen Proxide. I have used both of these for myslef and they work grate.
