Why after I wash my jeans and they dry, they turn hard as stone?

Question:I just make them air dry. What am I doing wrong? They get all wrinkled and hard, and my stretch jeans don't even stretch after I wash them the first time.

Why is that and how can I fix it?

Answers:
Your clothes get stiff with air drying because they aren't getting moved around as they dry. Hang them outside on a windy day,and you'll see a big difference.. I don't even use fabric softener on days when the wind is blowing a bit. Just being blown around as they dry will soften the clothes up.. you might also try (if you want to continue to air dry them) is to use double the fabric softener called for in the rinse of the load of jeans. Or, to cut to the chase, use a dryer.. it's more expensive, but your jeans will be nice and soft.

And yes, all clothes dried in the dryer shrink a bit, but they will stretch back out when you've had them on a while! Ever watch someone lay down to be able to button tight jeans? After they've had them on for a bit, they stretch back out.

Put them in the dryer, they will soften up.
Use the clothes dryer.
dry them in the dryer and use a dryer sheet which should help soften them up
they shouldn't shrink in the dryer because they are made from denim...usually only cotton shrinks down...try setting your dry to a low heat setting...and use a good fabric softner...
Here's what I do: use fabric softner and put them in the dryer under the lowest setting. If you set it on the highest heat setting, then yeah it's going to shrink them. If you set it on the lowest for like 30 minutes or so it won't. They will be soft and ready to wear again.
Put them in the dryer for only about 5 minutes, then hang them. Also use a liquid fabric softener when washing. Do the same with your bath towels.
